Ski holidays in Hundfjället – family-friendly skiing near Trollskogen

Hundfjället is particularly well suited to families with younger children looking for safe, varied skiing in a quieter mountain setting. Here you’ll find the large beginner area at Trollbäckstorget, the popular adventure area Trollskogen, childcare for the youngest guests, and accommodation close to slopes, lifts and services.

Accommodation in Hundfjället

In Hundfjället, you generally stay very close to the slopes and lifts. Many properties offer ski-in/ski-out or very short walking or gliding distances, often between 50 and 300 metres to the nearest run.

The area is more compact than, for example, Tandådalen, making it easier to find accommodation with convenient access to skiing, restaurants and services.

Stay centrally – close to everything

If you want the shortest possible distance to lifts, restaurants and activities, the area around Hundfjällstorget is the best choice. Here you’ll find some of the most centrally located accommodation in the area.

SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället is the most obvious option, with very short distances to lifts, ski school and services. Other properties such as Trolldalen, Trollbäcken, Nova and Hundfjällscenter also offer excellent proximity to the slopes.

Close to the slopes – but quieter

Just outside the most central areas, you’ll find accommodation that is still close to the skiing, but in a quieter setting. Distances to the slopes are typically between 150 and 600 metres.

Areas such as Fjällgläntan, Joängets Fjällgård and parts of Trollbäcken are well suited to families and groups looking to balance easy access to activities with a more relaxed environment.

Cabin areas with nature and more space

If you’re looking for more privacy, there are several cabin areas in scenic surroundings slightly further from the centre.

Areas such as Joänget/Närfjällsbyn, Salbäcksheden, Fjällsåsen and Sätertjärn offer more space, quieter surroundings and often great views. Here, you typically stay 700 to 3000 metres from the lifts, with easy access by car or the Ski & Bath bus.

Who is Hundfjället for?

Hundfjället is particularly well suited to families and to those who want to stay very close to the slopes. The compact layout, short distances and many ski-in/ski-out options make it one of the most convenient choices in Sälen.

Skiing in Hundfjället

Hundfjället offers skiing in multiple directions, providing good conditions regardless of the weather. From the top, you can access slopes of all difficulty levels, making it easy to ski together even if you’re at different levels.

From family-friendly to steep runs

Here you’ll find both wide, easy slopes and more challenging terrain. The most well-known is Väggen, one of the steepest runs in Sweden.

Combine with Tandådalen

Via transport lifts and the ski bus, you can easily reach Tandådalen, allowing you to add more variety without changing accommodation.

Children’s areas in Hundfjället

Hundfjället is one of the most family-friendly areas in Sälen, with clearly defined beginner zones and experiences that make skiing more fun for children.

Trollbäckstorget – for beginners

Trollbäckstorget is a large and easy-to-navigate beginner area with magic carpets, button lifts and gentle slopes. Ski school and services are located here, making it a convenient choice for families with young children.

In the area, you’ll also find a sledging hill, warming hut, café and equipment rental.

Trollskogen – skiing as an experience

Trollskogen is one of the most well-known experiences in Sälen. The run winds through the forest, where trolls, figures, sound and lighting transform it into something more than a typical slope.

At the bottom, you’ll find Trollens Fäbod with activities and shows several days a week. The area can also be reached on foot.

Ski school and childcare

Hundfjället offers ski school for both children and adults, as well as childcare for younger children. This makes it especially convenient for families who want to combine their own skiing with activities for the kids.

In slope 6, you’ll find SkiStar Fun Ride, featuring jumps, rollers and banked turns suitable for both beginners and more advanced skiers.

For park skiing, the nearest Snow Park is in Eastern Tandådalen, which you can easily reach via transport lifts or the ski bus.

Hundfjället is particularly well suited to families with young children who want safe beginner areas and experiences like Trollskogen. It’s also a great choice if you prefer a quieter, more nature-focused stay with easy access to the slopes.

With its proximity to Tandådalen, you also have easy access to more slopes and more challenging terrain.
