Sälen – Sweden’s largest ski resort and a favourite among families with children
Sälen is not only Sweden’s largest ski resort – it’s also a winter paradise for families. With a wide range of child-friendly slopes, playful activities, and ski-in/ski-out accommodations, Sälen is the obvious choice for both beginners and experienced skiers travelling with children.
Learn to ski in Sälen – a family favourite since 1975
Sälen has been a favourite among families since 1975 – and we’re proud of it! Many of us took our very first turns here, perhaps in the popular Gustavbacken in Lindvallen.
Gentle, child-friendly slopes
Sälen offers slopes of varying difficulty, but most are gentle and perfect for children, beginners, and anyone who enjoys cruising down at a comfortable pace. While there are black runs for those seeking a challenge, the majority of slopes are green, blue, and red.

Valle activities
Every day something fun happens with Valle the snowman, the children’s best friend in the mountains. Check the calendar to see what’s happening today – maybe it’s a Valle show or another fun activity that offers a playful break from skiing.
SkiStar Fun Rides and Snow Parks
For older children and teens who enjoy speed and excitement, SkiStar Fun Rides offer tracks with fun bumps and gentle challenges.
In our popular Snow Parks, you can practice jumps and tricks on skis or snowboard. In Sälen, you’ll find a smaller park in Lindvallen and a larger one in Tandådalen.
The ski bus – included in your SkiPass
The ski bus runs daily and is included in your SkiPass. It makes it easy to get between your accommodation and the slopes, so you can leave the car parked all week while you’re here.
Tips for beginners and families:
- Book Valle’s ski school – children aged 3–9 learn to ski through play and safe guidance. Adults can join group lessons or book a private instructor.
- Choose accommodation close to the slopes – SkiStar Lodge Lindvallen, SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället, and Timmerbyn in Lindvallen offer comfortable and family-friendly lodging.
- Try SkiStar Fun Ride – a playful slope with jumps and bumps suitable for all levels.
- Explore Trollskogen – a must for children who love fairy tales and adventure.
- Plan your winter and Easter holidays early – Sälen is a popular destination during school breaks, so secure your accommodation in advance.
