What is HVO100?
HVO100 is a renewable diesel produced from vegetable oils and animal fats. The fuel can be used in diesel vehicles and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%* compared to fossil diesel.
92% of our vehicles run on fossil-free fuel
Since 2015, we at SkiStar have been working to switch from fossil fuel to renewable and today 92% of all vehicles run on certified HVO100, including all piste machines in Sweden and Norway. And for everyone travelling to the mountains in diesel cars, there are conscious choices to make.
“We want to encourage our guests who travel with diesel cars to choose renewable diesel, HVO100 – a better alternative to fossil diesel, with up to 90%* lower greenhouse gas emissions,” says Fanny Sjödin, Head of Sustainability at SkiStar.
Renewable to the Mountains
To support our guests in choosing the renewable option at the pump, we have launched the Renewable to the Mountains initiative together with OKQ8. For the 2025/26 winter season, if you are a SkiStar Member and have an accommodation or SkiPass booking**, you can get a discount of 2 SEK per litre when refuelling HVO100 at OKQ8’s staffed stations. Once you arrive in the mountains, you can park your car – as a guest, you can easily get around using our ski buses, which have been running on renewable fuel for several years.
Benefits of HVO100
- Reduces CO₂ emissions – up to 90%* lower compared to fossil diesel.
- HVO100 is made from 100% renewable raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste from the food industry.
- Can be used in diesel engines without any modifications. Check OKQ8’s website to see if your car is compatible.
- Its high cetane number ensures cleaner and more efficient combustion.
- It can be mixed with regular fossil diesel and is available at over 390 stations in OKQ8’s network across Sweden.

*The revised EU RED III method (EU/2018/2001) is used for calculating emissions in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions varies depending on region-specific legislation and the raw material mix used to produce the product for each market. The emission reduction refers to your driving when refuelling with Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ (HVO100) from a life-cycle perspective. More info can be found here.
**Valid for anyone with a booking for the 2025/26 winter season with a SkiPass booked for at least 2 days or 2 nights of accommodation at SkiStar destinations.
