Train to Sälen
Travel by train to Mora and continue by connecting transfer bus to Sälen. During winter 2026/27, Snälltåget operates Saturday services with onward transfers to the ski areas.
Travel by train from the Netherlands to Sälen
You can travel from the Netherlands towards Sälen by train via Germany, Denmark and southern Sweden. From Amsterdam, international trains connect with Hamburg, where you can continue towards Copenhagen and Malmö.
The Snälltåget service to Sälen departs from Sweden and travels to Mora, where a connecting transfer bus continues to the ski areas. Because the international journey and the Sälen service do not connect conveniently on every date, you may need an overnight stay or an additional connection in Sweden.

From Mora to Sälen
Once you reach Mora, a connecting transfer bus takes you directly to the ski areas in Sälen. The transfer is timed to meet Snälltåget and should be booked to the stop that matches your accommodation.

Departures in winter 2026/27
Snälltåget operates Saturday services to Mora between 19 December 2026 and 10 April 2027. The route through Sweden varies depending on the date, so check both the international connection and the Swedish timetable before booking.
When flying is easier
If the train connections do not suit your travel dates, flying is a much quicker alternative from the Netherlands. During winter there are direct flights from Amsterdam and Groningen to Scandinavian Mountains Airport, just 10–25 minutes from the ski areas in Sälen.

Skis and luggage
Skis and larger items can be checked into Snälltåget's luggage carriage and should be booked in advance. Always check the latest baggage rules before travelling.
Food and drinks on board
Snälltåget has a restaurant carriage, Krogen, where you can buy food and drinks. Meals can be pre-ordered, and a table reservation is recommended if you plan to eat in the restaurant.
Alternative journey via Mora
You can also travel to Mora using other Swedish train services and continue to Sälen by public bus. These parts of the journey are booked separately.
