Hike Sälfjällsturen from Lindvallen

When Gustav Express is open, you can take the lift up the mountain and begin the hike at the Snögubben restaurant. From there, follow the trail towards Stensjön and continue through open mountain terrain towards Hemfjällsstugan.

Starting from Lindvallen gives you direct access to the central part of Sälfjällsturen and suits anyone looking for a longer hike in Sälen without beginning with the climb from Högfjället.

Stensjön and Hemfjällsstugan

The first section from Snögubben follows a gravelled, easy-going trail to Stensjön, which is known for its distinctive rock formations. After Stensjön, the route continues mainly along boardwalks towards Hemfjällsstugan.

Hemfjällsstugan offers views across the valley and is a natural place to stop for a break and eat your packed lunch before continuing.

Two route options at Hemfjällsstugan

From Hemfjällsstugan, you can choose between two routes:

  • Across Mellanfjället – a shorter but more challenging section, with a climb and far-reaching views.
  • Around Mellanfjället via Storfjällsgraven – a longer but easier option that passes Storfjällsgraven.

Follow the signs and red trail crosses back towards Lindvallen. The total distance and duration depend on the route you choose.

Surface and terrain

Large parts of the trail are gravelled or covered by boardwalks, but some sections are rocky and may be wet after rain. Although Sälfjällsturen is graded blue, it is a longer mountain hike that requires you to plan your time, clothing and equipment according to the weather.

Wear shoes with good grip and bring water, a packed lunch and extra clothing. Conditions on the mountain can change quickly.
