Take Gustav Express up the mountain and walk through the valley between Storfjället and Mellanfjället to Storfjällsgraven. The return route is approximately 7 km.
Walk to Storfjällsgraven from Lindvallen
When Gustav Express is open, you can take the lift up the mountain and begin the walk at the top station. From there, follow the trail towards Storfjällsgraven through the open mountain landscape between Storfjället and Mellanfjället.
Storfjällsgraven lies in a hollow between the mountains and is a natural destination for a shorter hike in Sälen. Stop here for a break and enjoy the surroundings before following the same trail back.
Surface and terrain
Most of the route follows boardwalks and a prepared trail. Some sections may be wet or rocky, particularly after rain. Wear shoes with good grip and adjust your pace to the surface and weather conditions.
Although the route is classified as easy, it crosses mountain terrain, where conditions can change quickly.
Starting point, lift and return
The main route starts at the top of Gustav Express in Lindvallen and is approximately 7 km there and back. After your break at Storfjällsgraven, follow the same trail back to the lift's top station.
Check the current opening hours in Sälen and plan your walk so that you return before the lift closes.
Alternative starting point at Högfjället
You can also walk to Storfjällsgraven from Högfjällsgården, opposite Gammelgården at Högfjället. The distance is approximately 4 km each way.
In summer, the boardwalks follow the same route as the cross-country ski trails in winter. Storfjällsgraven is therefore a well-known destination for both walking and cross-country skiing in Sälen.
