From Germany and continental Europe
From northern Germany, Kiel–Gothenburg with Stena Line is a useful option. From Gothenburg, approximately 460 km of driving remains to Sälen.
You can also take the ferry between Kiel and Oslo with Color Line. From Oslo, Sälen is approximately 270 km away.
If you prefer to arrive in southern Sweden, alternatives include Travemünde–Malmö with Finnlines and ferry routes between Germany and Trelleborg with TT-Line.
From Finland
From southern and south-western Finland, Naantali–Kapellskär with Finnlines provides a convenient route into Sweden. From Kapellskär, approximately 430 km of driving remains to Sälen.
You can also bring your car on ferries from Helsinki or Turku to Stockholm with Tallink Silja Line.
From western Finland, Vaasa–Umeå with Wasaline is another option, although the onward drive to Sälen is longer.
From Poland and the Baltic countries
If you are travelling from Poland, several car ferries provide access to Sweden. Useful options include Gdańsk–Nynäshamn with Polferries and Gdynia–Karlskrona with Stena Line.
From Estonia, Paldiski–Kapellskär with DFDS is particularly useful if you want to arrive north of Stockholm. You can also travel with your car between Tallinn and Stockholm with Tallink Silja Line.
From Latvia, Ventspils–Nynäshamn with Stena Line provides direct access to the Stockholm region.
From Lithuania, you can travel between Klaipėda and Karlshamn with DFDS or between Klaipėda and Trelleborg with TT-Line.
