Travel from the Netherlands to Sälen by car and ferry
There is no direct car ferry from the Netherlands to Scandinavia, so a practical option is to drive to northern Germany and continue by ferry towards Sweden or Norway.
Via Kiel and Gothenburg
Drive to Kiel and take the overnight ferry to Gothenburg with Stena Line. From Gothenburg, approximately 460 km of driving remains to Sälen.

Via Kiel and Oslo
Another option is Kiel–Oslo with Color Line. After arriving in Oslo, approximately 270 km of driving remains to Sälen, making this a useful route if you prefer to spend more of the journey at sea.
Via southern Sweden
If Travemünde is more convenient from the Netherlands, you can take the Travemünde–Malmö ferry with Finnlines.
Ferries from Travemünde or Rostock to Trelleborg with TT-Line are further alternatives. These routes leave a longer drive through Sweden, but may fit your journey to the ferry port better.
Continue by car to Sälen

When flying is easier
If having your own car in Sälen is not essential, it is worth comparing the road journey with flying to Scandinavian Mountains Airport. During the winter season there are direct flights from the Netherlands, and the airport is close to the ski areas in Sälen.
