Winter news in Åre
Åre is referred to as the alpine capital of Northern Europe, and to maintain this reputation, it's always important to think about how the customer experience can be further improved. This brings new developments to the ski resort, which will help Åre retain its position as one of Sweden's best ski destinations.
Åre continues to evolve – with several exciting new developments ahead of the 2026/2027 winter season. This winter, the focus is on improved accessibility on the slopes, greater booking confidence and even more flexibility for your ski holiday.
More affordable SkiPass options
We want to make it easier than ever to plan your ski holiday. That’s why we’re introducing a new, Area Pass for Duved/Tegefjäll – perfect if you’re looking for great skiing at a lower price.
This SkiPass gives you access to a family-friendly area with wide slopes, varied terrain and a more relaxed pace. It also complements the full destination pass, which provides access to the entire Åre ski system.
In addition, the pass is now available for longer durations – not just day passes – giving you greater flexibility throughout your stay.
Scandinavia's best snow guarantee
Snow is the foundation of a great ski experience. For winter 2026/2027, we’re launching Scandinavia's best snow guarantee – so you can book your trip with complete confidence.
In Åre, this means we guarantee at least 30 open runs throughout the season – a significant increase compared to previous years. At the same time, we’re making major investments in snow production, including additional snow cannons to ensure great conditions from early winter through to late spring.
The snow guarantee applies from 18 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, and gives you the option to rebook or receive a refund if conditions are not met.
The return of the iconic 1000-metre lift
One of the most anticipated updates this winter is the return of the iconic 1000-metre lift in Åre. The new lift will be built as a modern and reliable installation, making it easier to reach the top of Åreskutan. It will also improve the flow of skiing across the mountain, allowing you to stay up on the slopes longer without needing to return to the village between runs.
With a top station at 1,319 metres above sea level, the lift opens up more skiing opportunities and creates an even smoother mountain experience – for both beginners and experienced skiers. [publicnow.com]
An even better overall experience
With more choice, improved infrastructure and increased snow reliability, Åre continues to strengthen its position as a leading ski destination. Everything is in place for you to create unforgettable mountain moments – from your first turn to your last run of the day.
