Grimsåsen – woodland walk and circular route

At Grimsåsen, you can enjoy a varied woodland walk close to Trysil centre, either as a summit walk, a circular route via Fuglsjøene or as part of Pilgrimsleden. The route passes through woodland terrain, along quiet forest roads and up to scenic viewpoints on the ridge.

Grimsåsen is a great walking area if you want a varied woodland walk close to Trysil centre. Here you can follow parts of Pilgrimsleden or choose a longer circular route via Fuglsjøene.

Several route options from the start

From the starting point, follow the trail between a few houses and cabins. After a short distance, the trail splits, and you can choose whether to climb towards Grimsåsen from the south side or continue towards Fuglsjøene.

Circular route via Fuglsjøene

The longer circular route passes Søndre and Nordre Fuglsjøen, and varies between trail, woodland terrain and sections on forest road. At Nordre Fuglsjøen, there is a prepared fire pit that makes a good place to stop for a break.

Part of Pilgrimsleden

Parts of the route follow Pilgrimsleden. You can follow the waymarking up towards the highest point and turn back, or continue down the other side for a longer option.

Grimsåsen by bike

Grimsåsen is also a local favourite among bikers who enjoy natural bike trails in Trysil. The bike trail is a black, technical 3.1-kilometre trail with climbing and a fast descent, and it can be connected with Prestvegen.

Start and practical information

The circular route is around 6.5 kilometres long, has about 231 metres of elevation gain and takes approximately two hours. The walk is moderately demanding and follows varied woodland terrain with both climbs and sections on forest road.

From Trysil centre, drive along Korsbergsvegen from Storvegen for around 1.3 kilometres, then turn left down Grindbekkvegen to the turning area with parking.
