Södra Hemfjällsturen is an approximately 11 km circular hike that begins and ends at Hemfjällstangen. The trail crosses Hemfjället and Mellanfjället, offering open mountain views, varied scenery and several natural places to stop for a break.

The route is graded blue and suits anyone looking for a longer and more challenging hike in Sälen.

Towards Mellanfjällsstugan

From Hemfjällstangen, follow the trail up the mountain towards Mellanfjällsstugan. The first section is relatively easy-going and partly follows boardwalks across wetter ground.

Mellanfjällsstugan is situated in open mountain surroundings and is a good place to stop for a break before continuing towards Hemfjällsstugan.

Via Hemfjällsstugan and Sälenringen

From Mellanfjällsstugan, the trail continues through more undulating terrain towards Hemfjällsstugan. Along the way, you can enjoy views across the surrounding mountains and valleys.

After Hemfjällsstugan, the circular route continues towards Sälenringen. Follow the signs back towards Hemfjällstangen, where the hike ends.

Surface and difficulty

The route follows mountain trails and boardwalks. Parts of the hike are hilly and rocky, and the surface may be wet after rain.

The blue grading means that the hike requires a good basic level of fitness and experience of walking over uneven terrain. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water, a packed lunch and extra clothing.
