Travel to Åre by ferry

There is no ferry directly to Åre, but ferry travel can be combined with driving or rail to make the journey from parts of Europe and Finland more convenient.

Combine ferry travel with your journey to Åre

There is no ferry directly to Åre, but taking a car ferry to Sweden or Norway can make sense if you are travelling from Finland or continental Europe. From the ferry port, continue to Åre by car or connect with the Scandinavian rail network.

From Finland

Useful options include the Vaasa–Umeå ferry from western Finland and the Naantali–Kapellskär route from southern Finland. Both allow you to bring a car, while rail connections can also be used for parts of the onward journey.

From continental Europe

If you are driving north through Europe, overnight ferries from Kiel to Göteborg or Oslo can break up the journey and reduce the amount of continuous driving. From either port, continue by road towards Åre.

Ferry travel is most useful when it forms a natural part of your route. If reaching Åre as quickly as possible is the priority, travelling by air or train may be more practical from many countries.
