Travel to Åre by train
Åre railway station is in the centre of the village, making rail one of the easiest ways to arrive without a car. Both SJ and Snälltåget serve Åre throughout the year, although departure times and connections vary during the year.
From Stockholm
From Stockholm, you can travel directly to Åre with both SJ and Snälltåget. SJ operates daytime and overnight services, while Snälltåget usually runs daytime services northbound towards Åre and overnight services southbound towards Stockholm.

From Malmö and southern Sweden
Snälltåget serves Åre from southern Sweden throughout the year. The journey runs via destinations including Lund and Stockholm, while departure times and whether you travel by day or overnight can vary depending on direction and travel date.
From Trondheim
From Trondheim, travel towards Storlien and change for the final journey to Åre. This route also makes train a useful option after flying to Trondheim Airport Værnes.

Combine air and rail

Train travel in summer and autumn
Åre remains accessible by train throughout the year. SJ, Snälltåget and Norrtåg all provide rail connections to the destination, although the timetable and number of departures may vary during the year.

Arrive in the centre of Åre
Åre station is in the village centre. Many places to stay are within walking distance, while local buses, taxis and car hire are available if you need to travel further.
