Make skiing wilder – together with WWF and SLAO

We work for living mountain environments. The mountains are our most important resource and home to many plants and animals. That is why we actively work to preserve and strengthen biodiversity in and around our facilities.

When the snow melts, ski slopes are transformed into environments with great potential to benefit plants, insects, and wildlife. With the right management, they can become flowering hillsides that contribute to a richer mountain landscape.

We make ski slopes more vibrant – all year round

We are part of a joint initiative together with WWF and SLAO to make Sweden’s ski slopes more vibrant, even beyond the winter season.

Through small but important measures, ski slopes can become valuable habitats for pollinators, plants, and animals. Many of Sweden’s pollinators are currently struggling as flowering areas decrease and habitats disappear. Through the initiative “Make skiing wilder” we are working to reverse this trend and create more habitats in our mountains.

What we do on our slopes

To promote biodiversity, we work with, among other things:

  • Letting plants finish flowering before mowing the grass
In parts of our slopes, we let plants finish flowering before mowing. This creates better conditions for meadow flowers and the pollinators that depend on them.
  • Combating invasive species that threaten native flora
We actively work to stop the spread of invasive species that can displace native mountain flora. By acting early, we can protect biodiversity in the long term.
  • Keeping the landscape open with grazing animals
In some areas, we also test nature grazing, where animals help keep the landscape open. This creates habitats for plants, insects, and birds.

How you can contribute as a guest

As a guest, you are also an important part of the mountain environment. You can help by:

  • Not littering
  • Staying on marked trails and slopes
  • Showing respect for animals and vegetation
