Trollstigen is ideal if you want a calmer and more playful hike in Åre. The trail is short, but it climbs from Åre torg towards Fjällgården, so take it at the children’s pace and stop along the way.

From Åre torg to Fjällgården

The hike starts at Åre torg and follows the trail up through the forest towards Fjällgården. Along the way, you pass trickling water, forest sections and places where it is nice to stop for a while.

If you want to do the hike with less ascent, Bergbanan can be an option up to Fjällgården when it is open. You can then walk the trail down towards Åre torg instead.

Weather, season and trail marking

Trollstigen is best from Midsummer to early October. Early in the season, the trail may be wet or partly affected by snow, depending on the weather and ground conditions.

In spring and early summer, the ground can be particularly sensitive, so always check the current trail status before setting off.

Start point and practical information

The hike starts at Åre torg and heads up towards Fjällgården. It is approximately 1.5 km long and has around 170 metres of elevation gain.

Allow around 1–2 hours, depending on pace, breaks and how much you want to discover along the way. Bring water, clothing suitable for the weather and shoes suitable for forest trails and varied terrain.
