Hiking

Harschbichl offers a wide range of hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty.

Horngipfel-Höhenweg (Horn summit high trail)

Challenging hike for experienced hikers who enjoy views that stretch for miles.
The hike leads from the secured trail on to the peak via cliff traverses. This hike around the summit of the Horn offers breathtaking views of the Alpine landscape. From the bottom station to the Kitzbüheler Horn, the hike then continues to the summit via the Ludwig-Scheiber path. To the east of the summit, the path heads down into the valley to its starting point, running along the narrow ridge. It is an impressive trail on the Hofer Schneid towards St. Johann. The path leads past a lookout point that's perfect for a short break before hiking back to the starting point via the Jägersteig steep mountain trail. It's a wonderful experience to hike over the Jägersteig trail or the Ludwig-Scheiber-Weg path and then descend from the Horngipfel summit before riding down into the valley on the Kitzbühel cable car.

Alpine pasture circular

Take the fork towards "Hofer Schneid" and hike through Alpine meadows down to the Oberen Reintalalm. From there, head right on the gently uphill forest path to the Hornköpfhütte mountain hut and then on to the summit of the Kitzbüheler Horn.

Here you can hear the intensive whistling of the marmots, which warn the rest of the animal kingdom that someone is coming along the path.

Ludwig-Scheiber-Weg path

Let the cable car take the strain for the first 1,000 metres of elevation gain as it whisks you onto the Harschbichl.

From the top station, walk a short distance on a gently downhill-sloping gravel path and then the ascent begins again. The mountain trails winds across Alpine meadows and turns into a path halfway up. In the narrowest part, this path has a steel cable to assist hikers and offers a breathtaking panorama.

From the top, you can gaze in wonder at the mountain landscape and in good weather you can see an astounding 70 peaks over 3,000 metres.

Hüttenweg

Start from the mid-way station on the gondola: Pass the via ferrata along the beautifully located mountain lake, the Angeralm, and continue to the Schlossberg Lake. Then follow the path through a small wooded area until you reach the Pointenhof. From there, continue through the meadows towards Lackneralm. Back on the forest path, head a short while downhill towards Lackneralm and then continue to Dechantalm until you finally reach Kröpflalm after a winding stretch. Continue on through meadows, past the Jodlalm (taking care around grazing animals), until you meet the meadow path, which you then follow to Harschbichlalm.

Long-distance hike from the Kitzbühler Horn to the Wildseeloder

This is a long-distance hike that requires very good physical fitness and, above all, stable weather conditions. The famous German publisher of the Alpine Club Guides, Bergverlag Rother, has provided a description of this route, with its breathtaking views. The detailed and extensive hike descriptions with map and elevation profile can be found in the Rother hiking guide to the Kitzbühel Alps.
