Discover the thrill of trail biking
Trail biking is a simple and wonderful activity that gives you the opportunity to experience nature in a unique way, either on your own or with friends and family.
What is trail biking?
In short, trail biking is exactly as the words suggest - cycling done on natural trails. To make trail biking accessible to everyone, SkiStar has several cycling areas and bike parks that include both natural trails, excavated trails and wooden elements. This means that many of the bike trails are slightly wider and free of roots and stones, so that even complete beginners can try their hand at trail biking. Naturally, we also have more challenging trail biking available with banked bends, jumps and drops for those looking for a real adrenaline rush.
Trail biking offers a wonderful mix of challenge and training. By navigating through the terrain on your mountain bike, you not only boost your fitness, but also get to explore areas that are inaccessible on a regular bike or on foot. The view from the mountain summit or the forest that sweeps by you as you move along the trails is simply unbeatable.
If you can cycle, you can go trail biking
Trail biking is suitable for all levels and ages and does not require prior experience beyond being able to cycle.
If you are new to trail biking, we recommend that you start with easier trails that suit your level of experience. Start with shorter distances to gradually build up your fitness and technique. Trysil Bike Arena and Bike Park Trail in Åre and Sälen are perfect for beginners. They have plenty of great trails, many of which are excavated and therefore a little wider and free of roots and stones.

Equipment for trail biking
Trail biking doesn't really require much more than a proper mountain bike, a bike helmet and comfortable clothes - preferably breathable training gear. For your safety, a bike helmet is mandatory in all of our Bike Parks and on our trails. Gloves and protection for knees and elbows are not a must, but are nice to have, especially if you're planning to tackle the more technical trails.
If you don't have a mountain bike of your own or don't want to take it with you to the mountain, you can easily rent a bike at one of our rentals, SkiStarshop. Here you'll benefit from expert tips, advice and guidance on which bike you and trails are right for you.
