Quick guide to Sälen

Sälen is a paradise for snow-hungry families. Everything you find here is created for one reason only: to make snow and skiing a pleasure for alpine enthusiasts of all ages. We’re pretty confident that we’ve succeeded in this. Smiling helmet-footers, relaxed parents and a pleasant atmosphere are our proof of this. Here we offer a quick guide for those of you new to Sälen.

Our resorts
We have four alpine resorts in Sälen, split between two ski fields. The resorts in the respective fields are linked by connecting lifts. Our resorts are Lindvallen and Högfjället, which form the Lindvallen/Högfjället ski field, and Tandådalen and Hundfjället, which make up the Tandådalen/Hundfjället ski field. When you purchase a SkiPass (lift pass) for one resort, e.g. Tandådalen, you can ski the whole of the Tandådalen/Hundfjället field at no extra cost – quite simply, two resorts on one SkiPass. And we also have a SkiPass (SkiPass ) that permits you to ski at all four resorts on the same pass – and get the maximum skiing for your money! Read more about our skiing here.

Lindvallen – the best winter holiday for families
The feelgood factor is at an all-time high when families come to Lindvallen. Most kids light up like miniature suns when they see the Snowman towering above them, and this comes as no surprise: Europe’s biggest continuous ski field for children is here, with pommel lifts for them to get around on. And when the skiing starts to tire them out, there are plenty of other activities for them to try. Children can have a whale of a time in the area around the Snowman’s Castle and Snowman’s Valley with its barbecue hut and play cabin.

Högfjället – a classic alpine-style holiday and entertainment metropolis
Say Högfjället, and a sense of calm suffuses your whole being. The mood here is one of safety, a spirit of togetherness and sincerity. Broad, attractive runs in the high alpine terrain guarantee a pleasant skiing experience. The authentic chalets, classic hotel rooms and well-appointed apartments ensure that you’ll have a comfortable stay and ample opportunity to chill out when the day’s adventures are over, allowing a blissful sensation to wash over you.

Tandådalen – the pulse of Sälen
Take a tumble on one of the slopes in Tandådalen and see the glee in the faces of your companions as they get to rib you about it for the rest of the holiday. But naturally it’s important to take the jibes with your head held high; next time it might be your turn to give someone a bit of stick, tongue in cheek. There’ll certainly be plenty of opportunities – in Tandådalen it’s pretty good on the most of the runs, whether you opt for blue or black, a board or skis. It’s not without reason that folks say we have Scandinavia’s best halfpipe, and our dream park is absolutely top-class. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re skiing with family or friends – it’s just as cool to beat one of your mates as your kid brother in a private competition.

Hundfjället – a skiing paradise for big and small
The genuine happiness that can be seen in a child’s eyes is something that you’ll experience frequently when you’re in the vicinity of the Trollskogen in Hundfjället. All kids (and most adults too) have a broad grin on their faces when they emerge through the trees after wandering through the forest, and the words “One more time!” are often heard at the end of the tour. And kids also have their own dream park in Hundfjället, with specially built jumps and similar on just the right scale, further increasing their delight.
But even if kids are our guests of honour, there’s a wide and varied range of descents offering good skiing for the “grown-ups” in Hundfjället too. Here you’ll find everything from long, attractive green runs and the blue runs in the East and West Ravine to the red favourite Sixtenbacken, the black Special and the top classic Väggen (the Wall).

Where is Sälen?
Sälen – always close at hand. Sälen is Sweden’s most southerly mountainous area and is no more than 390 kilometres from Stockholm and 450 kilometres from Gothenburg. In spite of its proximity to southern Sweden, Sälen is one of the places in Sweden where snow is virtually guaranteed. In the 05/06 season, Tandådalen was the first ski resort in Sweden to open its slopes. As we consider it a matter of course to have snow for a winter holiday, we offer a snow guarantee from 15th November to 1st May.

Activities and entertainment
Sälen is up-tempo both on and off the piste for those who like a fast pace. When you’ve finished on the slopes, plenty of other activities and masses of entertainment round the clock are waiting to be enjoyed. Dog sledding, scooter safaris, ice-carting, tubing, bowling, cinema, pool and spa are just some examples of what Sälen can offer. There’s also a superb choice of places to eat, with everything from cosy little waffle huts to top-class cuisine. And when the small hours set in, you can let your hair down with the cream of Sweden’s top artistes at one of Sälen’s live venues. But don’t forget that the lifts open early tomorrow morning…

Amenities on offer
Our slogan “Sälen – always close by” has a double meaning. Apart from the fact that it doesn’t take long to get here, you’re never far from the amenities available in the form of grocery stores, sports shops, bakeries, cafés, restaurants and other pleasures either when you’re in Sälen.
