The North Face® Ski Challenge presented by Gore-Tex® ble først arrangert vinteren 2006/07. Konkurransen anses nå som Europas viktigste event for unge frikjørere som ønsker å slå igjennom på den internasjonale arenaen. Utøverne deltar i både ”big mountain” frikjøring og i ”park & pipe” freestyle konkurranse.
Hemsedal er vert for en av i alt 9 nasjonale og internasjonale kvalifiseringer som fører til finalen i Val Thorens i slutten av mars. Så langt i år har det vært arrangert nasjonal kvalifisering i Finland, Tyskland, Slovakia og Tsjekkia, samt internasjonal kvalifisering i Østerrike. Nå kommer turen til Hemsedal, som også er en internasjonal kvalifisering.
Årets konkurranse er åpen for ungdom født mellom 1989 og 1997. Konkurransen går over 2 dager, og deltakerne blir bedømt i både off piste- og i terrengparkkjøring.

One days to go before the second stage of The North Face Ski Challenge presented by GORE-TEX in Hemsedal, Norway. Riders will meet for applications and briefing in the Hemsedal Alpin Lodge Applications will be taken there on Friday afternoon. Please remember to come with the applications forms filled and signed by your parents or coach if you're under 18 as well as bring a proof of ski insurance.
The contest will take place in the Hemsedal Snow Park and in a freeride area chosen by head judge Jason Shutt. Riders will need a helmet (and we strongly recommend back and hip protections) for the freestyle as well as a backpack with a shovel, an avalanche stick and a transceiver for the freeride. You'll be able to rent a pack from the organizers for 20 Euros ( 180 NOK) .
