Free skiing
Ski skiing is all skiing and snowboarding outside the marked and groomed pistes.
Fri skiing is associated with significant risk and danger, and you might encounter unexpected circumstances like avalanches and sudden changes in weather.
Free skiing = your responsibility
All skiing outside outside marked trail is off piste and is on the skier and snowboarders own risk and responsibility. Respect the signs, markings and avalanche danger. Skiers and snowboarder must have knowledge and experience in the assessment of avalanche risk before skiing outside groomed tracks.
Skiing outside the groomed pistes in Hemsedal Skisenter and Solheisen Skisenter is also considered free skiing/off piste skiing and are at your own risk.
Avalanche alert
You must always be aware of the avalanche danger. In terrain steeper than 20-30 degrees there is always a risk. Do your own assessments at all times, even if others skiers have passed the area.
The avalanche risk is posted at the board next to the base of Hollvin Express and Roniheisen. You can also ask the ski patrol for advice.
Practice search
All free skiers should carry and be experienced in using transceiver equipment.
You can practise search with sender/receiver on the top off the Hollvin Express lift. The track area is to your left when getting off the lift. Ask the ski patrol if you need any help.
