Please use snow tyres
We advise all drivers to use snow tyres when driving to Hemsedal. For guests staying in Holdeskaret (e.g. Veslestølen, Skarsnuten) we also recommend snow chains.
The roads are usually salted and free from ice to Hemsedal, but during very cold periods or heavy snow fall roads will be icy. Drive carefully and watch out for moose crossing the road.
Road directions to Hemsedal
Oslo to Hemsedal
220km, ca. 3,5 hours drive.
Out of Oslo follow the E18 to Drammen and Sandvika, ca 10 km out of Oslo. From here take the E16 towards Hønefoss for ca 1 hour, ca 45km. You will come to a round about where the second turn off is for RV7 which you will follow until you reach Gol, ca 130km. Upon reaching Gol follow the signs for Hemsedal through the town. By following RV51 then RV52 you will reach Hemsedal, ca 35 km.
Bergen to Hemsedal
280km, ca. 4 hours drive.
Once out of Bergen follow the E16 to Lærdal and Borlaug. Turn off to the right on to RV52 to Hemsedal. You will see the signs for Hemsedals Fjellet, if this reads ÅPEN the mountain road is open, STENGT means the conditions are bad and the road is closed. Should this be the case contact the Reception at Hemsedal Welcome Centre if you have any queries.
To Welcome Centre/Hemsedal Skisenter
From Oslo drive through Hemsedal town centre and continue ca. 2 km till you come to a junction crossing a bridge to your left sign posted to Hemsedal Skisenter. Cross the bridge and from here follow the sign posts to the Welcome Centre you are to check in at.
From Bergen you will drive through a small village called Tuv, continue ca 5km and you will see the slopes on your right. You will come to the junction over the bridge on your right. Turn off here crossing the bridge and follow the sign posts to the Welcome Centre you are to check-in at.
