FAQ Skischool Hemsedal
Frequently asked questions to the ski school.
Can I book an English ski instructor?
All of our instructors speak English. Private lessons in another language can be organized if you contact the ski school booking via e-mail at least 3 weeks prior to arrival. Lessons are mostly based on “demonstrate-try-practice”, there is not a lot of theory. During the winter we have a lot of German, Dutch, Russian, British and Scandinavian children and we rarely encounter communication problems.
Can a new group be opened at a certain time?
If you have found a group that suits you but it is fully booked via the online booking send us an e-mail. 11.00-12.30 is a popular time that gets booked up quickly. If there are places available for the same course on the same day new groups will not be opened. The group schedules are planned in June so it is best to book early.
Is group ski school available for children and youth at weekends?
We have a 3 hour/day course, Saturday to Sunday, for 7-15 years Kids/Youth Adventure Camp and Kids/Youth Park Camp for experienced children and youth. Other ski school groups start on Monday and last until Thursday. Private ski lessons are available every day.
Can you book group ski school for just 1, 2 or 3 days?
Group ski school can only be booked for 4 days. We recommend that you attend all 4 sessions to get the most out of the lesson.
Can I book a 2 hour private ski lesson for NOK 1055,- and divide it over two days?
No, the price is for two consecutive hours. You can book 1 or 2 hours lessons several days in a row.
Is a ski pass included in the price for ski school?
No, everyone from 7 years and over has to buy a regular ski pass. When you are attending ski school you are allowed to use a separate ski school entrance to avoid the queues for the lifts.
What do parents of young children need to think about?
Before you book ski school for your child you need to be sure that your child can be away from you for up to 1-1,5 hrs. Make sure that they have been to the toilet before lesson starts. Usually everything goes well as soon as mum & dad are out of sight and the children can concentrate on their lesson. Out of sight, out of mind, it is best to watch from a distance. If the children get upset and do not want to continue we will contact you on the mobile telephone number registered on the booking. New beginner groups for 3-5 & 5-6 years are based on 5 students per instructor so they can expect 20% of the instructor’s attention.
Not all 3-4 year old have the motor skills to plough and stop in the slopes, (the majority learn and many end up skiing on the main slopes). It helps to ski to a natural stop whilst helping the children to plough. It does not help to catch the children all the time or use a harness. We can recommend that you use a harness when skiing with the children to get to easier slopes. Sending your children to ski school and then using a harness is not recommended. The youngest students are often very adamant and if they absolutely do not want to join ski school then we will refund you for the remaining lessons not attended. (Read more under Cancellations)
Cancellations
Cancellations 3 days prior to the course starting cost 195,- the remainder will be transferred to your account. Group ski school for children up to 6 years can be cancelled without a doctor’s note, but we debit ca 30% of the price for the first day. Cancellations for those 7 years and over require a doctor’s note for refunds. Private lessons are transferable and refundable.
