Skalet Express - Sweden's shortest express lift
Operational 15 November. There will be a big inauguration party on 26 December 2011.
Length 590 metres, drop 96 metres, capacity 2,400/hour, childproof seats, improved lighting, improved snow system.
The new express lift has two aims:
The first is to get rid of the morning queues at the current Sörliften, which is the entrance to the Vemdalsskalet ski area.
The second is to give kids and beginners a more comfortable, safer and therefore bigger skiing experience. Skalet Express will move extra slowly when you get on and off. It has child-safety seats with automatic locking and opening of the safety bracket. The number of masts along the track is higher than usual. This means that during the lift journey you are very close to the ground.
At night the chairs are parked under a roof below the operating station. This means snow and ice free chairs every morning. In order to ensure minimum noise levels in the area around the valley station, the new lift's power package is at the top, near the disembarkation stage.
Some of the slopes connected with the new lift will also get a facelift before next season. Nedre Blåbär, Barnbacksbranten and Sörbacken get new profiles to become even more child and beginner friendly than they already are. In addition, the lighting and snow systems will be expanded and rebuilt.

Financing
Skalet Express is owned and funded by Vemdalsfastigheter AB and the County Administrative Board of the county of Jämtland. Skalet Express will, like all other lifts and slopes in Vemdalen, be operated by SkiStar AB. Investments in skiing, lighting and snow production are performed by SkiStar AB.
